A Mystery Bedford

What is it?

Is it a bus, coach, car, caravan or what? This strange Bedford has been seen at an antiques emporium in deepest Suffolk.

Registered with a 1963 Somerset mark 213 SYB, the chassis is a Bedford J1, but what of the body?

According to the DVLA website it is registered as a motor home, but it could have been a small coach or estate car.

The BEDFORD name lettering on the bonnet has been replaced with “FEDEREE” suggestion it may have had foreign connections. No Chassis VIN plate could be found, it has the Bedford 214 petrol engine, and the body does not have any makers identification, so could be bespoke one off built on a J1 ambulance, van or truck chassis.

The current owner has had it for a number of years, having acquired it from a lady owner living in London, apart from a bench for the driver and two passengers it originally had longitudinal bench seats in the rear, but has since been in use as a camper can.

Can anyone tell us of its origins?
